technology past and future

Technology ("science of craft", from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, skill, cunning of hand"; and -λογία, -logia is the merging of techniques, skills, methods and processes used in the manufacture of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, and the like, or it can be embedded in machines which can be operated without detailed knowledge of their workings.

Articles about cars.

Where would be without the automobile. With us since cars replaced the horse drawn carts.

Cars are a means of transport, status symbol, investment,

Many of us enjoy driving but sometime in the future cars may all become driverless.

I have been a lover of cars since a young boy.

My favorite manufacturer is Porsche and the best motorcar in the world is the Porsche 911. Hence the prominence of articles about the  iconic 911 on this site.

Birth of the Porsche 911

As is now well known, the first batch of Porsche 356 models was hand built in a small workshop in Gmund, a beautiful little resort in the Austrian province of Karnten where Prof. Ferdinand Porsche and his son ‘Ferry’ (now Professor F. Porsche) temporarily transferred their activities before returning to Stuttgart. Those first cars had all aluminium bodies and, as they were lighter than later production models, they were kept by the company for use in competition or sold to some selected competition drivers.

The Porsche 901 that became the iconic 911

The 901 was such a triumph, so unmistakably a Porsche, that it was instantly accepted and even loved; no one pined for its supposedly superior predecessor, the 356. And precisely because of its technical and aesthetic perfection, the genesis of this legend, which has defined the sports-car genre for half a century, has never been called into question. It simply would not have occurred to anyone that the irresistible form and technology might have been the subject of spirited wrangling at Porsche.

The Porsche 911

There is nothing quite like a Porsche 911. Every one made is a car with an extraordinary character. You either love it or hate it. There is no emotional compromise with a Porsche 911. It understeers, it overseers, it costs a fortune, it starts and stops like nothing else on earth, it can corner well and spin even better. Its front seats are superb, its luggage space is restricted, and its back seats are a challenge even for a contortionist. There are dozens of optional extras and, no matter what anyone says, the engine is in the wrong place.
